1. Tutoring Services
Powology provides private tutoring and educational support, including English Language and Literature, reading, writing, study skills, exam preparation, confidence building and related learning support.
Tutoring may take place online or, where agreed in advance, in person within the local Taunton area.
The exact focus, frequency and format of lessons will be agreed with the parent, guardian or adult student before lessons begin and may be reviewed as the student's needs change.
2. Initial Meeting
Powology may offer a free initial meeting to discuss the student's needs, aims and suitability for tutoring.
This meeting is not a full tutoring lesson and does not guarantee ongoing availability.
3. Bookings and Lesson Arrangements
Lessons are arranged directly with the parent, guardian or adult student.
For students under 18, administrative communication, including bookings, cancellations, payments and changes to lesson arrangements, will normally take place with the parent or guardian.
Where useful for learning, Powology may communicate directly with a student about lesson content or share resources through an agreed platform, with the knowledge and consent of the parent or guardian.
4. Fees and Payment
Lesson fees will be confirmed before tutoring begins.
Payment is due by the deadline agreed with Powology, normally before or shortly after each lesson unless another arrangement has been agreed in writing.
Powology may pause or decline further lessons if payment is overdue.
If bank transfer, online payment or another payment method is used, the parent, guardian or adult student is responsible for ensuring payment is made correctly and on time.
5. Cancellations and Missed Lessons
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or rearrange a lesson.
If at least 24 hours' notice is given, Powology will usually offer to rearrange the lesson at a mutually convenient time.
If less than 24 hours' notice is given, the full lesson fee may still be charged.
If a student does not attend a booked lesson without notice, the full lesson fee may be charged.
Powology understands that illness, emergencies and unavoidable circumstances happen. In these situations, please contact Powology as soon as possible, and reasonable discretion may be used.
If Powology needs to cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rearranged or any fee already paid for that lesson will be refunded or credited.
6. Late Arrival
If a student is late, the lesson will usually still finish at the scheduled time.
If Powology is late, the lost time will be made up where possible, credited or otherwise resolved fairly.
If a student has not joined an online lesson after 15 minutes and no contact has been made, the lesson may be treated as missed.
7. Online Lessons
Online tutoring requires a suitable device, internet connection, working audio and, where appropriate, camera access.
Students should attend lessons from a suitable, safe and reasonably quiet space.
For students under 18, a responsible adult does not need to remain in the room during tutoring sessions. However, a responsible adult should normally be contactable during the lesson in case of an emergency, safeguarding concern or technical problem.
Powology is not responsible for connection problems, device issues or platform problems outside its control, but will act reasonably if technical issues affect a lesson.
Lessons must not be recorded by the student, parent or guardian without prior agreement from Powology.
8. Safeguarding and Professional Boundaries
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and Powology is committed to maintaining clear, professional boundaries that help keep students safe.
Powology will never send or accept friend or follow requests from students on personal social media accounts and will not use personal social media to communicate privately with students.
Students should not attempt to contact Powology through personal social media accounts.
If a safeguarding concern arises during tutoring, Powology may need to share relevant information with a parent or guardian and, where necessary, with appropriate safeguarding services. The safety and welfare of the student will always take priority.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact Powology if they have any concerns about their child's safety, wellbeing or experience of tutoring.
9. Student Conduct
Students are expected to behave respectfully during lessons.
Powology also commits to treating students with respect, patience and professionalism.
Powology may end a lesson or discontinue tutoring if behaviour is abusive, unsafe, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate or otherwise seriously unsuitable for a tutoring setting.
10. Learning Progress and Outcomes
Powology aims to provide high-quality, personalised tutoring and to support student confidence, skill development and progress.
However, Powology cannot guarantee specific grades, exam results, school outcomes or admissions outcomes. Progress depends on many factors, including attendance, engagement, independent practice, school provision and individual circumstances.
11. Resources and Intellectual Property
Powology may provide resources, activities, notes or feedback for use by the student.
These materials are for the student's personal educational use only and must not be copied, shared publicly, sold or redistributed without permission.
12. In-Person Tutoring
Where in-person tutoring is agreed, the location, travel arrangements and any additional expectations will be confirmed in advance.
A responsible adult should normally be present or contactable during in-person tutoring for students under 18.
Powology may refuse or stop in-person tutoring if the environment is unsafe or unsuitable.
13. Illness
Please do not attend in-person tutoring if the student or household has a contagious illness or symptoms that could put others at risk.
Online tutoring may be offered instead where suitable.
Powology may also move a session online or rearrange it due to illness.
14. Ending Tutoring
Either party may end tutoring at any time by giving notice in writing.
Any unpaid fees for lessons already delivered remain payable.
Powology may end tutoring immediately if there is a safeguarding concern, repeated non-payment, repeated missed lessons, abusive behaviour or a serious breakdown in trust.
15. Liability
Powology will provide tutoring with reasonable care and skill.
Powology is not liable for indirect losses, exam outcomes, school decisions, technical issues outside its control or losses caused by inaccurate information provided by the parent, guardian or student.
Nothing in these terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
16. Changes to These Terms
Powology may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
The latest version will be made available on the Powology website or provided on request.
17. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
