Frequently Asked Questions
What does Powology offer?
I offer personalised tutoring in English, communication, humanities and history, study skills, and digital literacy. Lessons can focus on schoolwork and exams, or on building confidence, curiosity and independent thinking.
Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach secondary school students, including English from Key Stage 3 through to A Level. If you’re looking for support outside that range, get in touch and we can discuss whether I’m the right fit.
Are lessons online or in person?
I teach online and offer in-person lessons within roughly 30 minutes of Taunton, subject to availability.
How do you tailor lessons?
We’ll start with a free 30-minute meeting to talk about the student’s goals, interests, strengths and any areas they find difficult. I use that conversation, along with ongoing feedback, to shape lessons around what will help them most.
Do you support students with SEND or English as an additional language?
Yes. I have experience teaching students with a range of needs and supporting learners who speak English as an additional language. We can discuss useful adjustments during the initial meeting so that lessons feel accessible and appropriately challenging.
Do you offer a free introductory meeting?
Yes. The first 30-minute meeting is free. It’s a chance for us to meet, discuss what support would be useful and decide whether Powology is a good fit.
Do parents need to stay in the room during lessons?
No. For students under 18, I ask that a parent or responsible adult is normally contactable during the lesson in case of an emergency, safeguarding concern or technical problem.
How do you communicate with students and parents?
Bookings, payments, cancellations and other administrative matters normally go through the parent or guardian. With their knowledge and consent, I may share lesson resources or discuss learning directly with a student through an agreed platform. I do not communicate privately with students through personal social media.
What safeguarding checks do you have?
I hold a clear Enhanced DBS certificate and am subscribed to the DBS Update Service. I also hold a Spanish criminal record certificate covering my time living and working in Spain. I’m happy to discuss these checks with parents or guardians before lessons begin.
What happens if we need to cancel a lesson?
Please see the separate Cancellation Policy for notice periods, charges and how to rearrange a session.
How do we get started?
Email tutoring@powology.com to arrange a free 30-minute introductory meeting. After we’ve spoken, I’ll send you the information needed to set up your first lesson.
